64 Slice CT Scanner
64-Slice CT Scanner Enhances Coronary Calcium Scoring
Aspirus Keweenaw was the first hospital in the Upper Peninsula to install the 16 multi-slice scanner technology. During this three year period, we developed programs in vascular (arterial and venous) imaging of the body, including the extremities, brain, abdomen, cardiac and calcium scoring. Continuing to develop the cardiac program, Aspirus Keweenaw upgraded to the faster 64 slice scanner. The newer scanner can now capture the same detailed information faster, which eliminates motion artifact.
Aspirus Keweenaw was the first hospital in the area to begin offering Coronary Calcium Scoring as a screening tool. Our Diagnostic Imaging Department offers safe, painless and accurate screening to individuals with risk factors for heart disease. The results show the amount of calcium or "plaque" build up in the arteries of the heart and may be an indicator for heart attack risk.
"Don't hesitate! Especially if you have a family history of heart disease. Having the cardiac scoring saved my life. They found a blockage and sent me to Marquette for a stent. I had to have triple by-pass surgery instead. Afterwards, the cardiologist told me that the test saved my life. I highly recommend this to anyone."

Patients do not need a physician referral for the screening. The cost is just $99.00 (including the radiologists reading). Appointments may be scheduled by calling (906) 337-6531.
