New location slated for November opening in Ridgecrest Plaza

In order to better serve community needs for physical and occupational therapy, Aspirus Keweenaw is opening a new facility in Houghton. With demand for services in the Houghton/Hancock market pushing the current facility on Sharon Avenue to capacity, Aspirus Keweenaw identified an opportunity to design a customer-centric Physical and Occupational Outpatient Therapies Center in Ridgecrest Plaza, near WalMart in Houghton.

“The new space is absolutely perfect for the treatment of our patients” says Mike Hauswirth, Chief Operating Officer at Aspirus Keweenaw. “The location has friendlier access and customer amenities than the Sharon Avenue location, where we split space with a fitness center. The Ridgecrest location is focused on physical and occupational therapy, making it more productive and comfortable for our patients and our staff” added Hauswirth.

Aspirus Keweenaw Outpatient Therapies helps hundreds in our community every year to recover from injury, rehabilitate after surgery and experience relief from chronic, painful conditions. The staff has extensive training and experience treating patients with a wide variety of post surgical rehabilitation needs, sports injuries, occupational injuries, neurological problems and chronic conditions.

“One thing that caught our attention with the new design and layout is how it will help us enhance the patient experience” says Phil Smythe, Director of Physical Rehabilitation Services for Aspirus Keweenaw. “Based on the spectrum of services we provide, we are set-up for the future at Ridgecrest Plaza” added Smythe.

The new, 3,200 square foot facility includes a welcome area, customer waiting space, offices, 2 therapy areas and an Occupational Therapy kitchen. The center is accessible by everyone in the community, but a referral from a doctor is necessary to receive services. The public is invited to come take a tour after the opening in early November.

“The deep experience of our staff is what sets Aspirus Keweenaw Outpatient Therapies apart” says Sharon Fisher, Occupational Therapy Supervisor at Aspirus Keweenaw. “Of course we are thrilled about the new space, but the real difference still remains with our relationship with the patient and achieving desired results for them for a happier life” adds Fisher.

“Our first priority is to provide ongoing upgrades in health care services for the needs of the entire Keweenaw community”, said Chuck Nelson, Chief Executive Officer of Aspirus Keweenaw. “Customer demand prompted us to focus on the most important services that we can best provide. The new Physical and Occupational Therapy facility enables us to do more for the consumer, and gives us an ideal location to do it, added Nelson. “
