Keweenaw Trail Running Festival returns as Aspirus Keweenaw Run the Keweenaw

June 29, 2010 in Special Events

Formerly known as the Keweenaw Trail Running Festival, the Run the Keweenaw weekend on July 10th and 11th has a new name, new organizers and a new agenda. The Aspirus Keweenaw Run the Keweenaw weekend is now being organized locally by the Keweenaw Trails Alliance and Copper Harbor Trails Club with all funds raised going towards trail preservation, improvement and acquisition efforts in the Keweenaw. Participants have a variety of events to participate in depending on their desire and fitness level and can choose to compete in one or all.
The featured Run the Keweenaw events include a 6k Summit Run up Mt. Baldy in Eagle Harbor and 12K Copper Harbor Trails Challenge on Saturday, followed by the 25K Keweenaw Trails Challenge in Copper Harbor on Sunday. The 12K and 25K courses have been designed by professional trail runner, Dan Dehlin of the Vasque USA Running Team. Also offered is a Non-Competitive Run/Walk featuring the nationally recognized Copper Harbor Trails, a 2K Junior Trail Run and a 2-person relay option for the 25K Challenge. Participants will enjoy a family cookout in Copper Harbor on Saturday with live music in the Grant Township Park.
Aspirus Keweenaw is proud to be the title sponsor of the ‘new’ Run the Keweenaw weekend. Other sponsors include the Keweenaw Convention and Visitors Bureau, Downwind Sports, Vasque Footwear, Hammer Nutrition, Xmatic, CWX Conditioning Wear, Mariner North, The Pines Restaurant, and Darn Tough Socks.
